Google Drive is coming to Linux, tells users to 'hang tight'

Google Drive is coming to Linux, tells users to 'hang tight'

As you may know, there is at least one out and proud Ubuntu devotee on staff. So, when Google Drive was announced, there were a few grumbles from those who noticed Linux was absent from the list of supported platforms. Especially in the wake of Picasa for Linux, many were afraid that Big G was slowly killing off it's (comparably) robust support of the ope n-source OS. But, rest easy, in addition to Dropbox and Ubuntu One, soon enough you'll be able to use Google's offering as well. Google Docs community manager Teresa Wu (we assume, soon enough, that will be Google Drive community manager) swung by a potential customer's Google+ profile to assuage his ire over the lack of Linux support. The message, while not very detailed, was quite clear: "we're working on Linux support -- hang tight!?"

Lava's Medfield-based Xolo X900 smartphone gets reviewed by AnandTech

Image

We briefly got our hands on the Medfield-based Xolo X900 back in February, and have seen some benchmarks from Lenovo's K800 (based on the same reference design), but AnandTech has now provided a typically thorough review of the device that's ushering in Intel's new push into smartphones. In short, the phone is a solid first step, but not something that AnandTech sees as a flagship device. Battery life is respectable and performance is even better (sco ring among the top of the heap in most benchmarks), and both the screen and camera manage to impress, but AnandTech didn't find anything that pulled the device ahead of the competition. In its own words, "on the one hand it's a good thing that you can't tell an Intel smartphone apart from one running an ARM based SoC, on the other hand it does nothing to actually sell the Intel experience." Hit the source link below for the full review and benchmarks.

Frog Sits on Bench Like a Person, Reflects on Life

A video of a frog sitting on a bench as a human would has become all the rage online. It sort of speaks for itself. Is he waiting for a bus? Taking a lunch break? Contemplating his place in the universe? It's all very much unclear.

According to reports, the clip was shot serendipitously and wasn't staged. Moments after the video ended, the un-coerced critter jumped off the bench and hopped away into the water, where it hopefully found whatever it sought in life.

Enjoy the 43 seconds of weird awesomeness below:

Birchbox Co-Founder Katia Beauchamp: We?re Poised To Grow Way Beyond Beauty [TCTV]

katiabeauchampBirchbox, the New York City-based startup that provides a monthly delivery service of beauty and personal care product samples, seemed like a lark to some when it when it first came on the scene back in September 2010. Since then, of course, Birchbox has been validated a few times over. Female-oriented websites have skyrocketed -- Pinterest, anyone? -- and the subscription commerce space has taken off as well. Today, Birchbox itself now has more than 100,000 paying subscribers, a staff of 60 full-time employees, and has raised nearly $12 million in venture capital funding. So when we heard that Birchbox co-founder Katia Beauchamp (pronounced "Beechum") was in San Francisco this past week, we invited her to swing by TechCrunch TV to give us an in-person update on how things are going at her company. You can watch our full interview in the video embedded above, but here are some of the topics we touched on:

Oppo teases 6.65mm-thick smartphone, about to steal 'world's thinnest' title from Huawei

Image

China-based Poop Oppo is back again with yet another smartphone, only this time there's no pretty girl teasing Mr. DiCaprio. Instead, what we have here is an exclusive leak that shows off a 6.65mm-thick device -- just 0.03mm thinner than the Ascend P1 S from local rival Huawei. In other words, if all goes well then Oppo will have us the world's slimmest smartphone. Details are scarce at the moment, but judg ing by the above picture this phone will come with a metallic bezel of some sort, along with three capacitive buttons and a three-pin contact for dock connection. Obviously, stay tuned for more deets.
