Mango OS has a long way to go

Effective last week, the new Windows Phone 7.5 mobile operating system, codenamed Mango, is now available free to existing owners. Microsoft has begun to roll-out the latest version of its Windows Phone operating system. The new OS has an enhanced social network contact and calendar integration and an improved multitasking according to the video of the release which is available online. Mango also offers enhanced access to Microsoft Office, as well as better gaming options and the ability to handle multiple email in-boxes. It also includes enhanced local search options, called Local Scout and faster web browsing. Microsoft launched Windows Phone over a year ago, to a mixed critical reception.

Microsoft claims Mango will deliver more than 500 new features. Also, a new software is available free to customers who have already bought Windows Phone 7 handsets although there is no new hardware available. Launch of new web marketplace for apps, allowing users to buy from their PCs as well as their phones was an additional that took me by surprise as well as Microsoft promised 500 new features in Mango. The applications are on the main screen and the rest are a swipe away to the side.Email, messaging, web browser, maps, social networks like Facebook,Twitter and Linkedin and music sit on the home page and the large text is clear and readable from any angle.

The multi-tasking works well rather like the iPhone 4 and on the video it seems that several applications appear to run at the same time. Most of the advantages of Mango, are like a wide range of APIs so that applications can be integrated more deeply into different areas of the phone or even the improved voice recognition which will only come when developers choose to take advantage of them. When Windows 8 comes out and the phone and pc interface becomes near seamless, I will watch with keen interest how many companies will switch to windows phones.

I totally disagree with what other people and analysts are claiming that Windows Phone 7 Mango is a brilliant OS that many people will prefer at expense of Android or Apple .However,it is fine that a Windows Phone will be a very useful device to own. Were it not sleeping chaps at Microsoft, this OS would have been the best thing on the market by an enormous margin couple of years ago. Its problem is that it's out now and there's really no compelling reason to choose it over its rivals beyond brand loyalty.

Button behavior which has drawn ire from some analysts can be modified by third party developers and that simply means that the issues they have will be resolved in many cases. The video also shows how pictures hub experience in Mango is definitely superior to iOS when one has integrated cloud services as it pulls them all in seamlessly into one place and no extra applications are required. It also looks like it is easier to use Mango OS because it runs on integration at the core whereas iPhone and Android runs on applications at the core. In my conclusion,I feel that Mango will provide a worthwhile upgrade for both existing and new users of Windows Phone devices.Microsoft as company faces an uphill task in persuading the market and developers community that it has the most user friendly and desirable mobile platform.
